All We Need Is QUILTS!

The 2012 FSQ Ultimate Guild Challenge

Theme: Interpret the title of a Beatles song or a line of a Beatles song in a quilt.

1. The focus of the quilt should be an interpretation of the Beatles’ music. The quilt should not be a Beatles-themed quilt that doesn’t relate to and interpret a specific song.

2. Lots of inspiration about Beatles music, and audio and videos of the specific songs can be found online. To get started, see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beatles

3. You can also interpret songs by the individual members of Beatles recorded in their post-Beatle careers.

4. Please contact Kathy Fraeman (301-570-4495) if you have any questions about the contest theme or about the music of the Beatles.

Rules:

1. The finished quilt should be approximately 40” square, with a +/- 2” leeway in either direction (38” to 42” square.)  Try to make the quilt a square, but if the quilt isn’t exactly square, that’s OK. The difference between the width and the length should be no more than 2”.

2. You can use any color or any color palette in the quilt top, and you can use any technique to make the quilt top.  The quilt must consist of three layers – top, batting, and backing. All quilts must be quilted by hand, machine, or both.  Tied quilts are not eligible.

3. The quilts must be a single unit and may not be framed with wood, metal, etc.

4. Do not include any copyrighted images in your quilt top

5. Only one person can work on an Ultimate Guild Challenge quilt, and each person can only enter one quilt for the Ultimate Guild Challenge.  Ultimate Guild Challenge quilts cannot be professionally quilted by someone other than the primary quilt maker.  This FSQ rule is based on AQS rules and recommendations.

6. Each quilt must have a hanging sleeve that meets AQS requirements.  See http://aqsshows.com/AQSLancaster/contests/requirements-for-hanging-sleeves-2/

7. Judging will be based on interpretation of theme and workmanship.  The panel of judges is yet to be determined.

8. The deadline for submission will be sometime in mid March, approximately 4 weeks before the submission deadline for the quilt show.  The exact submission date for the Ultimate Guild Challenge Quilts will be announced shortly.
